How much Heart Shape Flax Oil should I take?

The FDA does not make a specific recommendation for a daily dose. Health Canada recommends 5 – 8 g per day (1 – 2 tblsp) as a healthy dose and should not exceed 0.5% of total daily caloric intake. Athletes take up to 1 tablespoon per 50 lbs of body weight per day. Other’s can take up to that depending on lifestyle.

Is Flax Oil OK for my kids to take?

Flax Oil is good for your kids as flax oil is an excellent source of Omega-3 and Omega-3 is essential for normal development. Children especially during the developing years usually from 3 months to 2 years need omega-3.

How can I get my children to take flax oil?

Children love milks shakes and smoothies — simply add flax oil to make a healthier treat. Mix it into peanut butter or whip it into butter as a butter replacement. Flax oil or flax sunflower oil can also be used in baking cakes, muffins or added to pancake batter.

Is flax oil beneficial for pregnant mothers?

Yes, Flax Oil is beneficial for pregnant mothers. As every body has slightly different requirements we recommend you consult with your dietician or health professional as to amount of Omega-3 your diet requires. But to answer the question, in general we believe that Flax oil should be taken by everyone including pregnant mothers as we believe that Omega-3 is in short supply in the food chain. The health benefits of Omega-3 are tremendous, including heart health, cholesterol, joint inflammation, skin, hair and nail health. Normal human development and health maintenance requires a balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6. This ration should be 1:4 for optimum health.

Is flax oil beneficial for nursing mothers?

Newborns and growing infants have a critical need for DHA omega-3 for normal brain development. Omega-3 is usually supplied to infants by the mothers breast milk. The amount of omega-3 in the breast milk is proportional to the amount of omega-3 in the mother’s diet. Infants need 650mg to 700mg of DHA per day. Flax oil in the mothers diet will help the mother to produce DHA omega-3 rich breast milk. Infant formulas historically have had no omega-3 and only a few formulas have DHA added today. Getting DHA from Fish oil supplements may be a concern for pregnant or nursing mothers as mercury levels in fish is a potential health risk.

I have heard flax oil is good for athletes. Is that true?

Flax oil has been taken by amateur and professional athletes for many years and it is proved that it can enhance endurance and stamina. We recommend that as much as 1 tbsp per 50 lbs of body weight can be taken by a training athlete to benefit from Omega-3. Flax Oil should be taken with other protein rich foods. We do recommend consulting your personal trainer, nutritionist or dietician. Generally adding flax oil to an athlete’s diet is done incrementally and in conjunction with other performance foods such as whey protein.

I am a senior citizen. Would flax oil be good for me?

Flax oil is very good for senior citizens for a variety of reasons. Flax oil helps reduce tissue inflammation, helps the heart, helps with diabetes and blood sugar regulation. Senior citizens who are on blood thinner medication should consult there doctor about flax oil use.

How does Flax Oil help my skin?

Essential fatty acids, like Omega-3, help to avoid excessive water loss from the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, thereby preventing excessive dryness and scaly skin disorder.
